Our Story
Founded in 1937 as a stationary store in downtown Redwood City, Goetz Bros has gone through many transitions. Through the 40s, 50s and 60s, Goetz Bros was a department store, featuring clothing, music, home goods, hobbies, shoes and sporting goods. The 70s saw a transition to hobbies, music and sporting goods under the leadership of Steve Goetz. The 80s saw the end of end of the hobbies department and the expansion of the sport department to service the growing school and recreational sports market. As school music programs were cut in the late 80s and early 90s Goetz Bros adapted as well by transitioning to all sporting goods by the late 90s. The latest transition occurred in 2016 when Goetz Bros was relocated from Redwood City to its present location in San Carlos.
Meet The Brothers
Brent Goetz
Brent joined the business in 1996 and became managing partner in 2020. Brent graduated from Milpitas High School in 1992 and UC Riverside in 1996, playing baseball and soccer through his college years. Married to Maya in 1996 and relocated to Redwood City in 2004. He has two kids, Dillon and Abby, both Sequoia HS graduates and now college athletes. Brent currently serves on the Redwood City Little League board and Sequoia HS Boosters. Favorite teams are Giants, 49ers and Warriors.
Marc Goetz
Marc joined the business in 2000 and currently serves as the head buyer. Marc graduated from Milpitas HS in 1994 and from UC Davis in 1998, playing both baseball and soccer through college. Marc married his wife Susan in 2002. Marc has two Children, Grant (baseball) and Ellen (soccer and track) that are students at Carlmont HS. Favorite teams are Giants, Warriors and 49ers.
